What is Hafnium Diboride HfB2 Powder?

The US President recently said the conflict between Russia and Ukraine had driven up the prices of all the world's major food staples, including wheat, corn, barley, oilseeds and edible oils, and that Russia and Ukraine together supplied more than 25% of the world's wheat exports and about 20% of its barley exports.

To address the food shortage, the Biden administration says it plans to increase the number of counties eligible for insurance for double cropping. Double cropping is when farmers grow two different crops a year on the same field.

Under Biden's plan, the number of counties eligible for two-season crop insurance would increase by 681, for a total of 1,935.

The UN has warned that up to 1.7bn people are "highly exposed" to the domino effect of the conflict between Russia and Ukraine on the global food, energy, and financial systems.  The agency says conflict could increase hunger in countries where people are already suffering from malnutrition.

Even countries where food is less scarce are being hit by rising prices. U.S. grocery prices rose 1% in April, compared with a 10.8% increase over the past 12 months, the Labor Department said recently.

According to the White House, global food prices have risen nearly 13 percent since the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

Besides, affected by the ever-changing international situation, the supply and prices of international bulk HfB2 Powder are still very uncertain.

Introduction to Hafnium Diboride HfB2 Powder
Hafnium diboride or HfB2 belongs to ultra-high temperature ceramics and is a ceramic composed of hafnium and boron.

Physicochemical Properties of Hafnium Diboride HfB2 Powder
HfB2 has a melting temperature of about 3,250 °C. It is an unusual ceramic with relatively high thermal and electrical conductivity, sharing the same properties as titanium and zirconium diboride of the same structure. It is a gray metal appearance material. Hafnium diboride has a hexagonal crystal structure with a molar mass of 200.11g/mol and a density of about 10.5g/cm3.
Hafnium diboride is usually combined with carbon, boron, silicon, silicon carbide, and nickel to improve the consolidation (sintering) of hafnium diboride powders. It usually forms a solid through a process called hot pressing, in which heat and pressure are used to press the powder together.

Applications of Hafnium Diboride HfB2 Powder
Due to its strength and thermal properties, hafnium diboride has potential for use in ultra-high-speed reentry aircraft, such as heat shields for intercontinental ballistic missiles or aerodynamic fronts. Unlike polymers and composites, HfB2 forms aerodynamic shapes and does not melt during reentry.
Hafnium diboride is also being studied as a possible new material for nuclear reactor control rods. It is also being studied as a diffusion barrier for microchips. If the synthesis is correct, the barrier thickness can be less than 7 nm.

Related Elements
Boron (B):
Boron (atomic symbol: B, atomic number: 5) is a p-block element of group 13 of Period 2, with an atomic weight of 10.81. Each boron layer has 2,3 electrons, and its electron configuration is [He] 2s2, 2p1. The boron atom has a radius of 90pm, and the van der Waals radius is 192pm.
Boron is classified as a metal-like substance that does not naturally occur on Earth. The element boron, along with carbon and nitrogen, is one of the few elements in the periodic table known to form stable triple bond compounds. The bandgap of boron ranges from 1.50 to 1.56 eV, which is higher than that of silicon and germanium.

Hafnium (Hf):
Hafnium (atomic symbol Hf, atomic number 72) is an element of unit D, group 4, of Period 6, with an atomic weight of 178.49. Bohr model of hafnium the number of electrons in each layer of hafnium is 2,8,18,32,10,2 and the electron configuration is [Xe] 4f14 5d2 6s2. The hafnium atom has a radius of 159pm and the van der Waals radius is 212pm.
Hafnium was predicted by Dmitri Mendeleev in 1869, but was not isolated for the first time until 1922. In its elemental form, hafnium has a lustrous silver-gray appearance. The element hafnium does not exist in nature as a free element. It is found in zirconium compounds such as zircon. Hafnium is commonly a component of superalloys and circuits used in semiconductor device manufacturing.

Recently, the Turkish government announced that the Turkish President has signed a presidential decree to provide incentives for its Black Sea gas field development projects, including tax exemptions and other preferential measures.

With a fixed investment of 145.1 billion Turkish lira ($10 billion), the project will employ 1,018 people and produce 14 billion standard cubic meters of gas per year, the decree reads. The incentives involved include tariff and VAT exemptions, as well as a range of tax cuts.

In June 2021, Turkish drill ships discovered 135 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Sakaria field in the Black Sea, bringing Turkey's total gas discoveries in the region to 540 billion cubic meters.

Turkey imports almost all of its annual gas consumption of about 50 billion cubic meters.

Except for natural gas, the supply and prices of many other HfB2 Powder will continue to be influenced by international situations.
